Israeli Government Resolution No. 3859, dated June 3, 2018, regarding a Reform of the Electricity Sector and Structural Change in the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), decided that the Alon Tavor power plant would be sold to a private electricity producer.

On July 3, 2019, MRC won the tender for the purchase of the Alon Tavor power plant and the Colling-Water treatment facility in Dovrat, for a purchase price of approximately NIS 1.9 billion.

After all tender conditions were fulfilled, on December 3, 2019, the ownership of Alon Tavor power plant and Colling-Water treatment facility in Dovrat sites was transferred to MRC, and the company was granted generation licenses.

Alon Tavor power plant is located in the Alon Tavor industrial zone, approximately 4 km east of Afula and about 1 km south of Highway 65.

Upon the acquisition of Alon Tavor power plant, two open-cycle units and a combined-cycle unit were operating at the site, with total capacity of approx. 608MW.

As part of the tender process, MRC was granted the right to construct additional open-cycle flexible (Peaker) units at the site with total capacity of 230MW. The construction of these additional units was completed, and they were granted with generation licenses in
October 2025.

MRC is assessing Alon Tavor power plant’s future potential development, in light of Israeli Government Decision No. 2282 dated October 31, 2024, the increasing demand for electricity and the evolving needs of Israel’s energy market.
